Driver Dash: Motivating and Recognizing Excellence in Tennessee’s Ready Mix Drivers
Driver Dash, launched in Summer 2024, is one of TCA’s most innovative workforce engagement initiatives. This program, developed in partnership with Rocket Start, gamifies performance metrics for ready mix drivers across Tennessee. Driver Dash promotes healthy competition by tracking key performance indicators such as safety, efficiency and reliability. Drivers earn weekly and monthly badges for their achievements, and TCA announces top performers each month, creating excitement and recognition within the industry.
The program is hosted on the Rocket Start platform, offering seamless access via mobile and desktop. Participating companies can easily input driver data, track progress and celebrate successes. Each company receives an initial allocation of five driver licenses funded by TCA, with the option to include more drivers for a nominal fee. This allows for broad accessibility while maintaining flexibility for larger operations.
Driver Dash was designed to require minimal administration effort on the part of the employer. Driver Dash does not interfere with a company's own performance or bonus programs so any company - large or small - can put their drivers in the game. Only 10 badges can be earned or awarded to the drivers and this information can be quickly compiled and easily reported each week in about 15 minutes.
The ten badges are:
-
Squeaky Clean - Clean truck
-
Call of Duty - Late night/Early morning starts (Between 8pm and 3am)
-
Perfect Perfection - Pre-trip Inspections
-
Travel with Care - Incident/Accident Free Week
-
High Quality - No rejected loads in a month
-
Concrete Attendance - Present and on-time for all weekly shifts
-
Mission Accomplished - Awarded for each completed trip
-
Training Complete - Completion of a company training course
-
On the Job Past 6:00 pm - Ending a shift after 6 pm
-
12-Hour Shift - Working a 12 hour shift in a single workday
There is no cost to the employer for the first 5 drivers they put into Driver Dash, and TCA covers the cost of the monthly awards that go to the drivers. Each month the top badge earner in the competition receives a $100 Amazon gift card, and there is a monthly random drawing award for all drivers who earned a particular badge that month. The drawing winner also receives a $100 gift card. The two top drivers from each participating company will receive a free registration to TCA's Annual Convention where they will be recognized at the Annual Design Awards Luncheon, and the top point getter for the year will receive the TCA Driver Dash Champion Belt.
Program Success and Member Participation
Since its launch, Driver Dash has seen enthusiastic participation from TCA members, with three companies and 15 drivers actively competing each month. Participants appreciate how Driver Dash recognizes their work performance, and managers appreciate the extra motivation for them to improve performance and foster camaraderie.
Here’s what some of our members have said about the program:
-
"Driver Dash has helped create some healthy competition between our drivers that are in the race, and has also created buzz within our other drivers as they want to know how they can get involved as well! The pride in keeping their trucks clean as well as their urgency in completing tasks and taking care of business is very noticeable. I think the Driver Dash competition brings excitement back into the workplace and gives our drivers a personal goal to reach for each month that will bring them not only their income but also personal satisfaction of knowing where they stack up against the competition." – Don Childress, Harrison Construction
-
"The TCA and Rocket Start teams made getting started with Driver Dash incredibly smooth. Their ongoing support has been invaluable, making the process easy and efficient, allowing us to stay ahead in the competition." – Wendy M. Eads, Screaming Eagle Ready Mix
The competition has also sparked noticeable improvements in workplace culture, from increased pride in maintaining clean trucks to a stronger sense of ownership in completing tasks efficiently. These impacts demonstrate how Driver Dash is transforming driver engagement across the state.
Communicating and Engaging Members
TCA has implemented a robust communication strategy to promote Driver Dash and keep members engaged. A dedicated Driver Dash landing page on the TCA website provides comprehensive program details, including registration, tracking and reward information. Monthly leaderboard updates and driver success stories are shared through email newsletters and on socials, ensuring participants and member companies stay motivated and informed.
TCA also leverages its social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, to celebrate driver achievements and promote the program. Posts featuring leaderboard highlights and testimonials have generated significant engagement, with thousands of impressions and strong click-through rates. This multi-channel approach ensures that Driver Dash remains top of mind for members and continues to attract new participants.
Long-Term Vision and Impact
Driver Dash is more than just a competition; it’s a long-term strategy for fostering a stronger, more motivated workforce in Tennessee’s ready mix industry. By recognizing and rewarding driver performance, the program builds morale, encourages professional development and strengthens company loyalty. The program’s gamification element is fostering a supportive yet competitive community among drivers statewide.
As participation grows, TCA envisions Driver Dash becoming a cornerstone of its workforce initiatives, serving as a model for how state associations can elevate industry standards while enhancing employee satisfaction. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from members and drivers underscores the program’s success and its potential to drive meaningful change in the concrete industry.
Driver Dash is a testament to TCA’s commitment to innovation and excellence, ensuring that Tennessee’s ready mix industry remains at the forefront of workforce engagement and performance.
